I have the opportunity to see my exes daughter?
Please forgive the length of this post. I moved to WA in 2006 and met a girl who was rather young for me to even consider being in a relationship with. I was 23 and she was 17. From time to time we would somewhat entertain the idea, but nothing really came of it. Fast forward 2 years and we are both lead to difficult times in our lives, hers even more so. She had got into a relationship with a kid who really wasn?t the best candidate for her. Catastrophically, he had committed suicide only for her to find out shortly after that she was pregnant. One can only imagine what a young teenage mother-to-be could be going through. Of course ,on the flip side, for the babies family, they now have a child left behind. A bittersweet moment, if you will. During this time, I was also going through difficult circumstances. I was also devastated for Jolean (my ex), and hurt in the sense that I assumed that this meant I could no longer entertain the idea of being with her. I had decided to ride a bicycle across the country to help get my head together from my own life events. While I was riding through KY, I had asked myself while lying down at camp one night, if I was even capable of being a part of her life in a romantic way. Of course, I would always be there as a friend. As I asked this question, the most amazing feeling brought me to piece with this whole event. For the first time in my life, I had received some type of premonition that, yes, I did want to be a part of her and her baby?s life. Of course, as right as this felt, I didn?t? expect it to just happen, and I also knew that this could only happen if she felt the same way. I decided I would make my attempts to be in her life, but I also knew it would take her quite some time to heal from the traumas that she was going through. Fast forward a year later. I had attempted a few times to contact her. I would leave a voicemail saying hello and hoping that things are well for her and the baby. One day, while at my store, she had appeared out of nowhere with little Masie. We had spent some time together at the store and I played with Masie. Oddly, we had developed a quick bond. I had put her at a piano (I ran a piano store) and we just played. She even ended up crying when she had to leave, holding her arms out to me. As you could imagine, after receiving this ?premonition? one year earlier, and now that they had just showed up out of the blue, it was a pretty amazing feeling that things seemed to be coming together. Shortly after this event I had lost my job. Jolean and I had a misunderstanding which put us back into ?silent? mode. I received a job offer back in SLC and accepted it. Jolean showed up to my going away party with Masie, and apologized for the way she had treated me in the last few years. She made me promise that we stay in touch. That we did. Through long distance, we started to kindle. This lead to a serious relationship in which the plan was for me to return back to WA. Her family, as well as Masie?s grandma and grandpa fell in love with me and treated me like their own. Everything was just about as good as it could get..until Joleans 21st birthday? After about a year of our relationship, she just couldn?t get over all the attention she was getting from other men. Her and Masie were everything to me. Masie and I had an unbreakable bond. I was more or less her father. Jolean had asked me to adopt her when we got married. She even called me ?Daddy? the last day I saw her. Our break up devastated me. Although there was nothing there for me, something kept urging me back. I have now moved back to WA within the last 6 months. I am going to school and started my own business. I will not lie that part of it is because they are here. I do not expect us to get back together, but that does not mean that a hope doesn?t linger. I don?t contact them whatsoever. Masie?s grandma and grandpa (who they both live with) call me and ask me to come visit, go for motorcycle rides, camping etc. but I just don?t want to face being in a position where I can get hurt again. I also don?t want to hurt Masie. She was 2.5 when I saw her last. She is now 3.5. I?m no longer ?Daddy?, and would there for have to be just some friend of grandpa?s. I?m fine with that. Most of me has moved on. However, this pain has not gone away completely and I still feel like there is something that is incomplete here. While I will live in WA for myself and do my best alone, I cannot help but think about the fact that they were also a part of the reason I moved back. Should I accept their invitation? Jolean, I am sure knows that Masies Grandpa and I are friends. I dont think she?d be surprised to see me over there but I?m sure it will be awkward too. I just don?t know. I do know, however, that no matter how much I try to push away the desire to accept the invitation, the temptation is always in the back of my mind. It's been over a year since the break-up. Any help is appreciated
